Post: Bar Spacing

Could you keep a parrotlet in a cage with 5/8in. bar
spacing? Right now my bird is in a cage with small bar
spacing but it is hard to clean and not very attractive so
I want to move him to a better cage. The bar spacing on
the other cage is 5/8 and maybe a bit wider by the door. A
breeder told me it would be okay but some books I have
read say if a parrotlet is in a cage with bar spacing over
1/2 in. it will stick its head through the bars and get
strangled. Has anyone ever actually had this happen? Could
someone please give me some advice on whether or not to
move my bird to the other cage? Thanks in advance.
