Kitty, please give your friend Amanda some good advice:

DO NOT BRING ANY KIND OF PET INTO YOUR HOME THAT YOU ARE UNABLE
OR UNWILLING TO PROVIDE VETERINARY CARE FOR.

To answer your question, none of us can take guesses as to what
your friend's bird died from. The point is the bird suffered and
is dead because your friend is irresponsible.
