Depending upon the calcium source, let's say liquid for example, it
should be given twice a week to non-breeding birds and 3-4 times a week
to actively breeding pairs.
The one thing about calcium is this...when you supplement in excess,
the body recognizes this and it slows down the natural process of
making/utilizing it's own calcium, so you don't want to over do it.
If you provide a dry source, it is less of a problem, but because it is
in dry form, it is also less readily absorbed by the body. This isn't
necessarily a bad thing, just the difference from dry and wet.
Spirulina can be given daily for several weeks and then you can cut
back to twice a week or so if and when you see improvement. There's
little harm, if any, from Spirulina as it is a natural food source.
I bet the bath not only improved their appearance but refreshed their
feathers and skin. Great idea.
