Keep them seperate. I would only keep another bird if the
wings are clipped first thing.

I've kept several birds but could never charge. I only
asked they bring food and leave a few $ for fresh produce
along the way. I kept a Timneh Gray for 3 months. That was
a hoot.

Poor bird needs out of that cage. They could work it out for
seperate dog/bird time in their living area. Shame on
them.
