Post: Getting another cockatiel

Posted by G.G. on 7/29/08

I have a male cockatiel that is almost a year old now. I
thought he was a female but he proved me wrong a few weeks
ago when the bars on his tail feathers were missing in the
new ones he grew. So, now that I know for sure he's a male,
I'm thinking about getting him a girlfriend. I'm going back
to work next week and the only time I can really spend with
him even now is at night after everybody goes to bed.

So, is there anything I need to know about introducing a
new female to him? I have 2 fairly large cages if I need to
keep them separated during their first few days of
introduction. He seems pretty laid back. I still take him
back where I got my lovebird (who sadly died from egg
binding) and get his wings clipped. He loves "chatting"
with the other birds when we go.

    Any advice?
