Post: my african grey just layed an egg,

Can anyone tell me at what age an african grey should start
laying eggs. My bird, named sadie, is 17 years old and she
just layed her first egg. I was told that at 10 years she
would start. so I was thinking she was a male and not
female as i was told when i bought her. but my wife is so
happy and me to i guess..... anyway is this a normal age or
is this a late age, if it is a late age does it affect her
health anyway??????? Thank for all the help
