Because of the big issues of the recent year liberal
animal rights groups have been getting away with working
against our rights to humanely keep our animals. This is a
freedom we have enjoyed since the beginning of time and
should not be taken from us. Some of us are
breeders ,rescuers , dealers , feed dealers , or supply
retailers .This bill and other liberal animal right bills
are hurting our trade and the ability to keep our animals.
Some of us depend on our extra income and do not get
wealth at our trades but are in it because we have a
passion and support captive breeding of our animals.
Captive breeding has save a good many species from
extinction.
West Virginians need your help - immediately! There is
currently a piece of legislation, West VA Senate Bill 277,
that has already passed the W VA Senate (unanimously) and
is now heading to the West VA House for hearing on
Wednesday morning, April 6. The West VA legislative
session is over April 9. This bill is written 'for
Homeland Security purposes', but would restrict all
aspects of animal ownership, predominately exotics.
SB 277 will have a damaging affect on all exotic animals
in W VA, all exotic animal owners in W VA, and all
rescuers in W VA who deal with exotics, including birds.
If this bill passes, people wanting to purchase an animal,
such as a parrot, ****atiel, lizard, snake, etc. would
have to apply for a permit, pay necessary licensing fees,
keep insurance on said animal (to be determined,
originally written as $100,000 policy per animal), and the
board the legislation creates could easily come into their
home and seize, quarantine and/or destroy the animal if
they determine it to be harmful to 'other people, animals,
plants or wildlife'.
Under SB277 if you can no longer keep your animal for
whatever reason, you must give it to an approved rescue
facility or an American Zoo and Aquarium Association
facility. No selling, no private placements, no choosing a
new home for your bird, no giving the bird to your kids or
family. If you can't find an approved faclity SB 277
requires that the animal "shall be humanely euthanized at
the possessor's expense". How many rescues are there in W
VA that can take in every bird that has to be rehomed?
