Please > tally up all the lifetime costs or potential costs of your > desired pet then decide if you can afford or not. > If you cannot afford AVIAN vet fees for regular check ups or > emergencies then you should never own a bird. just to let you know i take very good care of my birds and i have gotton a FREE bird already he is a orange wing amazon and no one has held min in 5 years...guess what!!! i did i have only had him 2 days and already he is talking to me and letting me hold him...i also have a S.I Eclectus female and she is very well off i turned her around in just 2 weeks and she was a real mean biter. and just to let you know the savings we spent was only to go pick up free birds..and i have a great avian vet right in watertown ny on rt 3 toward sackets harbor ny... and yes birds are very exspensive to take care of but the food is affordable!!! the price of the birds well that is just outragious.... esp.. when birds need lots of attention and love and that means a lot of your time...something people don't think about when getting a bird...they just put them in a room in a cage and feed them...wronge birds need more than that...some birds have the intelect of a 5 yr old child...they only get mean when not taken care of correctly...and buy the way i trim the beaks on my own and cut there nails and wings if needed all on my own as well...my vet has been very good to me...also my best friends husband is a vet teck and is near by....so yes things can be free and yes you can take care of animals without having a lot of money...to buy them...thanks for the post...
